Lewis TannerFocusing on delivering functionality rather than work packages, adjusting the daily Scrum schedules, changing the Sprint planning methods, driving toward monthly demos, and celebrated small successes -- these are some of the things Lewis Tanner of Vestas told us about in their agile journey. Implementing Scrum in a Research Environment Tweet This!

Scrum has become a proven methodology to successfully deliver software projects. However, Agile principles, including the Agile manifesto, can be applied outside of software development in non-software environments. Vestas Technology R&D Americas has incorporated Scrum in its research environment. This talk reviews the learning curve involved, and describes which components of traditional Scrum translate best outside of the typical software development role.

Lewis TannerLewis Tanner is  currently the Director of project management for Vestas Technology R&D Americas, and is responsible for implementing Scrum management within a team of approximately 35 research engineers.  His project teams have succeeded in meeting all project milestones and budgets over the past 24 months, and have been recognized as the most customer engaged organization within Vestas Technology R&D, which employs 3000 people in 4 countries.

Prior to joining Vestas, Lewis was a software engineering manager for Lockheed Martin, where he utilized Scrum on multiple programs related to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
