Tips On How To Improve Your Online Conferencing Experience

Greetings Tribe, this blog is dedicated to leveling up your leadership ascension within the Agile space, specifically in the virtual arena. I have two topics to touch on:

  1. Ingredients for a great talk via video conferencing
  2. Maximize the value of our monthly ALNH meetings
  1. Ingredients for giving a great Agile Talk via zoom (or any other video conferencing platform):
  • Have a Double monitor if possible; it’s great to be able to see the audience’s reaction as we are not able to be in person just yet.
  • Have a wing person in the chat who can drop a pre-set of links you may discuss and help answer questions during the talk.
  • Don’t be A.T.N.A. (ALL TALK AND NO ACTION) breakouts, confidence voting
  • Address audience by their name to make it more personable
  • Create a quick Ice Breaker; Sarah of Culture n’ Strategy Queens Gambit Ice Breaker was ah-may-zing!
  • Translate Technical Terms into Laymen’s terms
  • Advertise people, invite your professional and personal community
  • Create a captivating title for the talk
  •  Keep It Simple-don’t overload to data dump value; focus on what you can share that can be easily digested and used.
  • Ask attendees to drop their LinkedIn profile in the chat, download it and thank EVERY SINGLE ONE AND ASK IF THEY HAVE ANY FEEDBACK TO SHARE WITH YOU
  • Post and ICYMI video if you had a chance to record it.

May your voice be heard, and your knowledge becomes transferred.

2. Are you maximizing the value you’re getting out of the monthly meetings your attending?

  • If distracted-try doodling or having a desk toy to help you stay focused
  • Turn on your camera, yes we can see you, but most importantly, you may feel more compelled to be engaged
  • Take Notes
  • Arrive early. We open our zoom sessions 15 minutes before the actual meeting; arriving early builds confidence.
  • Share your learning on your professional social media account.
    • You boost your personal brand.
    • Your support the organization by increasing visibility
    • You create an electronic repository of experiences you enjoyed and can review them as needed.
  • Keep in touch. I try to reach out and have Coffee Chat with a new person from the Agile Community at least once a month.
  • Turn your camera off; sometimes its been a long day, and removing the pressure may free you up
  • Attend regularly enough to build community. It’s so thrilling to see familiar faces.
